Decorating The Moses Basket

The Moses basket is more well known now as the bassinet. So forget the title of this blog; we're talking about wherever your baby is sleeping as a newborn. Decorating where your baby is going to be sleeping after they are born is a great early labor activity and it’s super cute and sentimental. Whether it’s your bed, a bassinet next to your bed or in another room, you can place items in and around it to celebrate your baby being born. For example, you can fill the bed with soft toys, a special blanket, a love letter to your new babe, clothing, or something of yours when you were a baby. You can also create an altar next to the bed with photos of you when you were pregnant, flowers, crystals, an essential oil diffuser, a candle, books that you read to prepare you for your birth, or and anything else you feel is special. Not only is this a nice ritual, but it can also be a nice way to move around and cope with some of the surges in early labor.

After sharing all of this, I want to remind you to rest in early labor. Eat snacks, watch movies, nap or take a bath. It’s really important to rest whenever you can in labor to save energy for when things begin to intensify. Decorating the bed (or “the Moses basket”) is still a relaxed activity that is slow paced and actually helps release oxytocin. So if you’re feeling up for it, I think you’ll look back and feel sweetly about the memories of doing it.
